The Living History Farms Quilt Show will offer quilters a very unique experience at the Pioneer Piecing Tour. We will be open from 9 am to 5 pm October 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12th. Also available, an 1875 Shop Hop!

Pioneer Piecing Tour
Explore the 1875 town of Walnut Hill and visit the Living History Farms’ Historic Quilt Show.

  • Church of the Land – Living History Farms’ Historic Quilt Show will feature 30 vintage quilts. You can start or end your visit in this interfaith church that is built near the site where in 1979, Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass with 390,000 people.
  • *General Store – Visit the General Store to purchase various replica notions and charm fabrics.
  • *Law Office – Observe a Spenserian handwriting demonstration and then try your hand at it.
  • *Drug Store – See how 1875 quilters visited the Drug Store to purchase fabric dyes.
  • *Schoolhouse – See what it was like to attend an actual one-room schoolhouse. This is one of the stops of the 1875 Shop Hop, as are the *Bank and *Implement Dealer.
  • Shop in the LHF Visitor Center at The MarketPlace gift shop. Many historic replica quilting and sewing items as well as a variety of homemade treats will be available for purchase. A Living History Farms exclusive vintage quilt pattern will be available for purchase for the first time at this show.
  • American Professional Quilting Systems Demonstrations – In our Visitor Center. Watch the speed of an APQS long arm quilting machine! See how a quilt can be quilted today in a fraction of the time that it could be quilted by hand.
  • Flynn Home – Built in 1870 and original to the site that is now Living History Farms, the Flynn Home is on the National Register of Historic Places. A tour of the Flynn home will showcase reproduction quilts in several rooms and Victorian handcraft demonstrations.
  • Tangen House – A replica of an 1875 middle class home will also feature several quilts and our historic interpreters in period appropriate clothing will demonstrate English Paper Piecing.
  • Print Shop – Our Quilt Show Guests can pick up a souvenir printed on an authentic 1800s era printing press.
  • Millinery – Visit our 1875 Millinery and watch a treadle sewing machine demonstration.
  • Horse drawn wagon rides will be included with admission price, weather permitting.
